Selection criteria

• Primary workflow: 2D drafting, mechanical CAD, product design, 3D printing, CAM or PCB integration.
• Platform availability.
• Commercial-use restrictions.
• Manufacturing drawings and neutral file exchange.
• Integrated CAM, PCB and collaboration capability where relevant.
• Learning curve and the cost band selected by the visitor.

Product claims are checked against vendor documentation and official product pages wherever possible. Key sources used for the initial October 2026 build include:

Important limitations

Software products change continuously. A comparison tool can narrow a shortlist but cannot know every customer, supplier, file translator, add-on or contractual requirement in a user's environment. Verify important features and licence conditions before purchase.

Affiliate independence

Products can appear even when D&L receives no commission. FreeCAD and other non-affiliate options are included because excluding them would make the comparison less useful. The selector code scores product/workflow fit only.
