A focused set of measuring, drying, storage and maintenance tools that support a repeatable FDM workflow. These are not ranked by commission and we do not claim hands-on testing where D&L has not performed it.
For engineering printing, accessories are useful when they reduce an identifiable source of process variation. Moisture control changes polymer behaviour; dimensional inspection tells you whether a process is centred; cleaning helps recover a contaminated filament path; and the correct lubricant can reduce mechanical wear. None of these substitutes for a stable printer, suitable material or a controlled slicing process.
Hygroscopic polymers exchange moisture with the surrounding air. The practical consequence is that a spool which printed acceptably after drying can move out of its useful process window during storage. Drying and storage therefore solve different problems: a heated dryer is used to remove absorbed moisture; sealed storage, desiccant and humidity monitoring are used to slow re-absorption.
A heated single-spool dryer for restoring moisture-sensitive filament before use. It is most relevant where PETG, TPU, PA and other hygroscopic materials are kept open for long periods or where print symptoms suggest moisture uptake.
Check on Amazon UK →Reusable vacuum bags with an electric pump provide a compact way to isolate dried spools from ambient humidity. Vacuum storage is a preservation step, not a reliable substitute for actively drying filament that has already absorbed water.
Check on Amazon UK →Small displays are useful inside dry boxes or storage containers because they expose drift instead of relying on assumptions. Relative humidity is not a direct measurement of filament moisture content, but it is a useful process indicator when the sensor is kept in a stable enclosed volume.
Check on Amazon UK →Bulk indicator silica gel is useful for reusable dry-box cartridges and AMS-style desiccant holders. Regeneration is attractive because desiccant capacity is finite: once saturated it needs to be dried or replaced rather than simply left in the enclosure.
Check on Amazon UK →For functional parts, the first useful measurement tool is often a 150 mm digital caliper. It will not turn a desktop printer into a coordinate-measuring machine, but it can quantify external dimensions, hole diameters, wall thicknesses and repeatability sufficiently well for routine process checks if measurement technique is kept consistent.
An accessible stainless digital caliper for general print inspection and workshop measurement. For tolerance work, the instrument should be checked against a known reference and the user should distinguish instrument resolution from measurement uncertainty.
Check on Amazon UK →Maintenance tools should be selected for a specific failure mode. A cleaning needle is useful for a local obstruction; cleaning filament or rope can help remove residue from the melt path; lubricant is only appropriate where the printer manufacturer specifies a compatible grease or oil. Aggressive cleaning and indiscriminate lubrication can create new problems.
A small maintenance set containing fine cleaning tools for routine nozzle work. Use needles gently and at a size compatible with the nozzle bore; they are not a substitute for diagnosing heat-creep, damaged PTFE, contaminated filament or a worn nozzle.
Check on Amazon UK →Cleaning material can be used as part of a controlled purge or pull procedure to remove residues from the internal melt path. Temperature and technique matter: follow the printer/nozzle guidance rather than pulling cold material through a fragile heat-break assembly.
Check on Amazon UK →A general synthetic grease that may be suitable for compatible lead screws or mechanical interfaces. It should not be treated as a universal printer lubricant: linear rails, bushings, polymer components and lead screws can have different lubrication requirements, so the machine manufacturer's maintenance specification takes priority.
Check on Amazon UK →Accessory inclusion is based on whether the item supports a recognisable engineering control: material condition, measurement, contamination removal, storage or mechanical upkeep. We deliberately avoid presenting a long catalogue of cosmetic upgrades. A product may be removed if the listing changes materially, disappears, becomes poor value or no longer fits the process described.
