Best Bambu Lab build plate: CryoGrip vs PEI vs PyroGrip

Choose a build plate around adhesion, polymer, bed temperature, release behaviour and surface finish — not just a colour or marketing name.

Short answer

CryoGrip Pro is the most interesting general upgrade when adhesion and lower-temperature PLA/PETG workflow matter. Double-sided PEI is the conservative, familiar baseline. PyroGrip is better treated as a specialist higher-temperature option. Decorative plates can create interesting first-layer finishes, but they sit below process reliability in an engineering workshop.

What a build plate actually controls

A build plate affects first-layer adhesion, release force, bottom-surface texture, bed temperature, thermal uniformity and the amount of time lost to glue, cleaning and failed starts. It can therefore be a genuine process component rather than a cosmetic accessory.

CryoGrip Pro: strong adhesion at lower temperature

BIQU’s current CryoGrip Pro range is a double-sided, seven-layer spring-steel plate available for multiple Bambu sizes. BIQU publishes typical lower-temperature ranges for PLA and PETG and positions the surface around strong adhesion without glue.

Double-sided PEI: the conventional engineering baseline

PEI remains popular because it is durable, well understood and available in smooth and textured finishes. BIQU’s Panda plate combines PEI surface options on magnetic spring steel. It is the easier choice when you want a conventional surface with familiar slicer/temperature behaviour rather than deliberately changing the adhesion mechanism.

A conventional alternative to CryoGrip for users who value familiar process behaviour, smooth/textured options and a straightforward spare plate.

PyroGrip: specialist rather than default

PyroGrip belongs in the comparison because higher-temperature workflows place different demands on the surface and adhesive system. We would not automatically move every PLA/PETG user to it; the stronger case is where newer H-series machines or hotter materials are driving the purchase.

Designer plates: useful finish, lower engineering priority

Pattern-transfer build plates can produce a distinctive first-layer appearance. That is useful for customer-facing housings, badges and display parts, but it should not displace adhesion stability, flatness and release behaviour as the primary selection criteria for jigs, fixtures or dimensional parts.

Do not ignore chamber physics

Reducing bed temperature can be beneficial for energy and turnaround, but the bed also affects the local thermal environment. For ABS, ASA, PA and PC, a low-temperature plate should not be used as a reason to ignore warping, interlayer stress or chamber-temperature requirements.

Frequently asked questions

CryoGrip or PEI: which is better for PLA?

CryoGrip is attractive when very strong adhesion at lower bed temperature is the priority. PEI remains a familiar, durable general-purpose surface and may be preferable when you want predictable conventional bed temperatures and a particular texture.

Can CryoGrip print PETG?

BIQU explicitly markets CryoGrip Pro for PETG and publishes lower-temperature guidance. As with any high-adhesion surface, confirm release behaviour for your exact PETG and avoid forcing a part off while the surface is highly bonded.

Is a lower bed temperature always better?

No. Bed temperature is part of the thermal process. For ABS, ASA, PA, PC and other warping-sensitive materials, the bed also contributes to chamber conditions and thermal gradients.

What is PyroGrip for?

PyroGrip is a higher-temperature-oriented build-surface option in BIQU’s range. It is more relevant when H-series or higher-temperature workflows are the focus, rather than as a universal replacement for PEI or CryoGrip.
